FDSN code 2D (2008-2009) Network name INGV Temporary Seismic Network for Parma 2008 Sequence (North Italy) (ITSNP2008)

Description

On 23 December 2008 a magnitude (ML) 5.2 earthquake affected the Apennine area between the
provinces of Reggio Emilia and Parma (Northern Italy). The seismic event, felt by a large part of the population of Italy central-northern, was located by the Istituto Nazionale di Geofica e Vulcanologia
(INGV) at a hypocentral depth of approximately 23 km between the municipalities of Vetto, Canossa and
Neviano degli Arduini (Lat. 44.544N and Lon. 10.345E).
A few hours after the mainshock, the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) installed some temporary seismic stations to integrate the INGV National Seismic Network (RSN) already present in the area with the aim of acquiring higher quality data and detail in such a way as to be able to study the seismic sources, the space-time evolution of the sequence and characterize through micro seismicity, the
activated fault structures.
