FDSN code 4Y (2022-2023) Network name Unraveling the microseismic activity of the Puerto Aldea Fault, Chile (Puerto Aldea)
Start year 2022 Operated by
End year 2023 Deployment region -
Description

The Puerto Aldea Fault, situated at the southern edge of the Challenger tectonic segment in the Coquimbo Region, Chile, exhibits evidence of neotectonic activity. Consequently, the primary aim of this investigation is to assess the seismic activity and kinematics of the Puerto Aldea Fault. The methodology employed entails the deployment of temporary seismological stations along the Puerto Aldea Fault, followed by the analysis and relocation of acquired data using machine learning algorithms to illuminate subsurface structures. 10 instruments have been installed for 7 months, monitoring the seismicity of the fault and the area. Instruments are Guralp 40T sensors (30 s - 50 Hz) equipped with Nanometrics Taurus dataloggers, registering continuously at 100 Hz.
