FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 7J (2011-2011) Network name Correlating seismic and visual (TLS) signals at Breidamerkurjokull, Iceland (Breidamerkurjokull 2011)
Start year 2011 Operated by
  • University of South Florida (USF), United States of America
End year 2011 Deployment region
Description

This is a pilot study aimed at understanding the range of seismic signals produced by advancing and calving glaciers. Seismometers will be deployed around the actively advancing Breidamerkurjokull glacier in southern Iceland during the peak of the 2011 calving season, in conjunction with environmental monitoring and terrestrial LiDAR equipment deployed by colleagues at Ohio State University and the University of South Florida, for approximately two weeks. These complementary data sets will elucidate the seismic behavior of glaciers and form the basis for a larger study in Greenland during 2012.
