FDSN Network Information

FDSN code Y7 (2025-2026) Network name Ōkataina volcano nodal seismic network
Start year 2025 Operated by
  • Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
End year 2026 Deployment region -
Description

A short-term (3-5 month) nodal array targeting the Makatiti and Haroharo areas of Ōkataina volcano in Bay of Plenty, Aotearoa New Zealand. The network consists of approximately 85 SmartSolo IGU-16HR 3C short period nodes. The aim is to study the shallow magma system of Ōkataina caldera volcano through seismic imaging and detection and characterisation of local seismicity. We aim to improve our knowledge of the volcano’s structure and processes, and the hazard that it poses.
