Description

CorNet consists of a 15 station network (7 purchased borehole instruments and 8 L22's borrowed from PASSCAL) around the Cornell University campus. The purpose is to record seismicity in advance of drilling a >3 km borehole that could eventually be used as a deep direct use geothermal project to heat campus and work towards carbon neutrality by 2035. The network is operated under subcontract to ARW who telemeter the sites and do routine analysis and maintenance. This is also an educational project involving students. While the original experiment was to be from 2019-2021, Cornell obtained DOE funding (3 years) to drill an exploratory borehole. That project, the Cornell University Borehole Observatory (CUBO), was drilled in summer 2022. Using external funds it is extending with hopes of federal funding for a larger Phase 2, so we are planning to run the experiment until at least 2026.

Additional Notes Weston is responsible for uploading the data to the DMC. I thought they had done this, but it seems the data aren't currently available -- do you know why?
