Geology: The vault is located in a tunnel in granodiorite of the Huayna Potosi batholith in the eastern Cordillera of the Andes.
Vault Conditions: The seismometers are in a small chamber at the end of the tunnel about 50 meters from the entrance. The humidity in the chamber is 100% condensing, however, the seismometers are sealed in tanks filled with argon gas. The tanks are bolted to the concrete floor which is poured on bedrock.
