1. Global Seismograph Network - GSN: IRIS -2 System

DATES OF OPERATION:  	 10 Mar 1992 to Present.

SEISMOMETER TYPE AND ADC:
Geotech/Teledyne Model 36000-i borehole seismometer for the Z, N, and E channels.  
Streckeisen Model STS-1/VBB 3 component system is used for the U, V, and W channels 
(see comments below).  ADC is Quanterra Model Q-680

DIGITAL FORMAT:
24 bit integer data words for all components.  
Range: +8,388,607 to -8,388,608 counts.

EVENT DETECTOR ALGORITHM:  None

COMMENTS:
A description of the IRIS-2 system can be found in USGS Open-File Report 89-471, Peterson et al (1989).  
The reason for the two seismometer systems at RAR is to compare noise backgrounds 
between borehole and surface seismometers on island sites.  This will be a
temporary arrangement.  The Streckeisen seismometers were removed from RAR
on November 26, 1993.
