The IRIS DMC does not support the creation of another web service endpoint or the move to a new version of StationXML to address the issues raised. Given the resources required for either of these changes, we feel it is more practical to move quickly to StationXML 1.1 and let the clients that wish to validate these two, very closely related formats do so according to the declared schema version in the document.
We believe this is in line with the views expressed by the EIDA nodes. We also support the careful consideration of next versions of the web service and StationXML specifications to avoid this ambiguity going forward.
