FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 1W (2023-2023) Network name GEODES San Francisco Volcanic Field Active Seismic Experiment 2023 (GEODES-SFVF23)
Start year 2023 Operated by
  • University of Maryland (UMD), United States of America
End year 2023 Deployment region -
Description

The main purpose is to image the shallow subsurface beneath volcanic structures (lava tubes, basaltic flow, and faults beneath lava flows) in the San Francisco Volcanic Field (SFVF), northern Arizona, using active source seismology. The field site includes Lava River Cave, SP Graben, and Double Crater Flow. The project builds upon previous exploration activities by NASA at SFVF, and the active source seismology will also be used to understand how similar investigations can be conducted on the Moon and Mars. We also test the applicability of non-uniform sampling in seismic acquisition.
