FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 3U (2024-2025) Network name Assateague Island Seismic Array (AST-ISLE-ARRAY)
Start year 2024 Operated by
  • University of Maryland College Park
End year 2025 Deployment region -
Description

Two seismic arrays consisting of 6 Fairfield Nodal ZLand 3C nodal seismometers were deployed on the barrier island of Assateague Island State Park in partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The 2024 array was designed to look at noise variation and ocean seismic activity (weather, wave action, atmospheric waves) and deployed along shore, parallel to the park dune. The second array, deployed in 2025, was designed to look at dissipation of ocean seismic energy perpendicular to the shore. One mobile sensor was deployed in 2024 alongside controlled source seismic experiments.
