Description

The Aberdeen Geothermal Feasibility Pilot (AGFP) is a transdisciplinary research and infrastructure project that will quantify the geothermal potential of the Aberdeen granite pluton by drilling and instrumenting a research borehole (>500 m) and deploying ~130 passive seismic nodes. In doing this, it aims to provide the scientific evidence base for a new renewable heat source, contributing to UK Net Zero targets and commitment to climate solutions. The AGFP consortium links the University of Aberdeen with the British Geological Survey, NHS Grampian, Aberdeen City Council, University of Leeds, Robert Gordon University, and industry partners. We will deploy ~30 3C smartsolo nodes for a 1 month period around the University of Aberdeen Campus Mid Dec 2025- Mid January 2026, and then a network of 100 3C smartsolo nodes for a 2 month period across the city of Aberdeen January - March 2026.
