Description |
This temporary deployment of infrasound sensors in collaboration with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) was aimed to investigate the acoustic signals during the eruption of Kilauea in 2018. The eruption was marked by fountaining of multiple fissures and later focusing on fissure 8. Our 4 element infrasound array (Chaparral, 60-UHP) was deployed ca. 500 m from the active fissure 8 after it focused on it and the recording ended before the eruption stopped. The fissure eruption was accompanied by collapses of the crater floor at the summit of Kilauea. We deployed 3 single infrasound sensors (Chaparral, 60-UHP) in the summit region to capture the collapse events. |
