Description |
The USGS, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and U Miami will conduct an active and passive seismic interferometry experiment on Kilauea volcano in spring/summer of 2022. The experiment will use NSF's triaxial vibroseis truck to generate P and S waves independently, the signals of which will be recorded on 2000 nodes. We have designed this experiment using Guoqing Lin's Vp and Vp/Vs tomography to determine the source-receiver configuration that will give us Vp and Vs information in the 0 to 5 km depth range beneath the summit of Kilauea volcano, using finite frequencies of 5 to 25 Hz. Funding is coming from the 2.4 million dollars approved for research from the 82 million Kilauea supplemental funding as a result of the 2018 eruption. |
