FDSN Network Information

FDSN code X3 (2006-2006) Network name TAIGER active source explosion pilot test (TAIGER Pilot)
Start year 2006 Operated by
  • University of Southern California (USC), United States of America
End year 2006 Deployment region
Description

The full-scale TAIGER active source profiling experiment is scheduled for November 2006. In preparation, the Taiwan and US scientists will drill and detonate one explosion test shot. This test shot has two purposes: (1) to give Taiwan drillers/shooters experience with a large shot (~300 to 500 kg), and (2) determine wave propagation distances across the island of Taiwan. The test shot will be located in the center of the island. We propose to use a small number of Texan instruments deployed in very short mini-arrays in approximately four strategic places in order to test propagation distances and quality of signal (given the shot size and location).
