FDSN Network Information

FDSN code XI (2005-2005) Network name 3D Tomographic Imaging of the Chicxulub Crater (CHIX05)
Start year 2005 Operated by
  • Imperial College London, United Kingdom
End year 2005 Deployment region
Description

A large scale 3D tomographic seismic survey was carried out over a quadrant of the buried Chicxulub impact crater in Mexico. This impact has been associated with mass extinctions and environmental change. Major targets include the geometry of the central uplift, the ratio of melt to suevitic breccia, the geometry and lateral extent of transient cavity collapse, the volume of the excavation cavity, and the nature of the peak ring.
Start date: 2005 JAN 01 End date: 2005 FEB 28
