Description

Weston Geophysical, Southern Methodist University (SMU), the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) have formed a consortium to study the foundation of seismic wave generation from explosions. This type of research is applicable for distinguishing nuclear tests from the many earthquakes that occur throughout the world. We would like to record explosions from the Black Mesa coal mine in northern Arizona, and a large copper mine in Morenci, Arizona. UTEP is the lead organization for placing seismic sensors between the two mines. The project is funded by the National Nuclear Security Administration.
