FDSN code Y6 (2018-2018) Network name Yellowstone Lake Microseism 2018 (YL-Micros-2018)
Start year 2018 Operated by
End year 2018 Deployment region
Description

This project deployed an array of 40 3-C Nodal geophones around the perimeter of Yellowstone Lake as well as on the larger islands in order to characterize the formation of microseism energy produced by wave action on the lake. In addition, we also deployed instruments to simultaneously measure key atmospheric information (air temperature, pressure, wind speed, and wind direction) and the lake waves (amplitude, period, and direction) while the seismometers were recording. This combination of atmospheric, wave, and seismic provides an unprecedented opportunity to understand the processes that generate microseisms.
