FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YA (2005-2005) Network name Torfajokull 2005 (Torf2005)
Start year 2005 Operated by
  • Nordic Volcanological Institute (NORDVULK), Iceland
End year 2005 Deployment region
Description

A continuation project for Torfajokull 2002 in south Iceland, a tighter net and more stations at the Torfajokull volcano that is a source of persistent small-scale seismicity. The main focus is to gather data on low-frequency earthquakes, related to active magma, occurring in a small area in the south part of the caldera. Data on high-frequency earthquakes, associated with a cooling magma chamber in the west part of the caldera, are gathered as a by-product.
Number of Stations: 30
Channel types and rates: 87 channels at 50 samples/s continuous
station HRAF: 3 channels at 50 sps continuous (at first)
3 channels at 100 sps continuous (later as a part of national network)
