FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YI (2003-2006) Network name Retreating-Trench, Extension, and Accretion LTectonics: A Multidisciplinary Study of the Northern Apennines (RETREAT)
Start year 2003 Operated by
End year 2006 Deployment region
Description

A regional network was deployed across the Apennines in northern Italy. The network consisted of a relaively sparse 2-D grid and a tightly spaces (~10 km) linear array crossing the mountains.
Recording was performed in a continuus mode, at 50 sps.
The aims of the project were to resolve major elements of the sesimic structure (crustal thickenss, lithospheric thickness, shape and position of the subducted slab beneath Italy) and to evaluate possible scenarios of mantle flow. The project utilizes equipment form the PASSCAL pool and from European sources.
