FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YU (2019-2024) Network name Cornell University Earth Source Heat seismic network (Cornell_ESH (2019-2024))
Start year 2019 Operated by
  • Cornell University, United States of America
End year 2024 Deployment region -
Description

Using internal funds, we installed a 15 station network (7 purchased
borehole instruments and 8 L22's borrowed from PASSCAL) for 5 years.
The location is around the Cornell University campus. The purpose is to
record seismicity in advance of drilling a 4-5 km borehole that could
eventually be used as a deep direct use geothermal project to heat campus and work towards carbon neutrality by 2035. We are subcontracting with Weston geophysical to telemeter the sites and help with installation, analysis, and maintenance, but this is also an educational project involving students. While the original experiment was to be from 2019-2021, Cornell has recently obtained DOE funding (3 years) to drill an exploratory borehole and so we are planning to run the experiment until at least 10.31.2024 and have approval from PASSCAL to keep the 8 L22s that long.

Additional Notes Weston is responsible for uploading the data to the DMC. I thought they had done this, but it seems the data aren't currently available -- do you know why?
