Geology: MBC is located on Price Patrick Island in the High Arctic, on permafrost overlying Devonian sandstone.
Vault Conditions: Concrete pier frozen into permafrost; surrounded by insulated building; buried into the permafrost. Unheated instrument room.
Site Description: MBC is located in the Sverdrup Basin seismic zone where there were 16 events in 1993 with MN</=4.0. About 400 km to the southwest is the edge of the Beaufort Sea seismic zone (10 events with ML > 2 in 1993); approximately 450 km to the southeast is the Boothia-Ungava seismic zone. Due south of MBC is the seismically-quiet central part of the North American craton.
