Geology: The observatory is located in the Tajo River basin on alluvial fill.
Vault Conditions: The building and piers rest on clay. The piers are isolated from the floor, and are covered with a concrete slab which only rests on the piers and is not firmly attached. There is a busy highway nearby, and the site is relatively noisy. Temperature and humidity are relatively stable.
